The BRAHMA KUMARIS suggest how we can take stock of our lives and reduce stress

Can any of us be free of stress? Stress is a feeling we experience when something inside or outside of us is not in control. When it is outside of us, it might be something we can’t control, but what’s inside, can be worked on. When we learn to manage our reaction to the situation, we may be able to deal better with it. A few steps can also help:

Step Back

When we are faced with a situation, the easier option is to run away. However, till when can we keep running? Someday, we will have to face that which causes us stress. The best option when faced with a stressful situation is to step back and check whether it is impacting you directly. If yes, then another check is to analyse if we can do something to change it. If we can change it, then take action or let it pass. Facing the situation while being detached will give you a new experience.

Inhale and Laugh

Sometimes we may make a mistake which creates stress. It can be due to lack of attention or it might happen without intention. Every mistake attracts some reaction from someone impacted and you have to face the reaction silently. Once out of the situation, you should immediately breathe deeply and let the stress go. Sometimes, laughing at your own mistakes can also de-stress you.

Remember Why You are Here

We are all here for a greater cause, which is to serve all. Each one is a soul and a global family member in some way. However, so far as we remain in a limited consciousness restricted to that of our immediate family members, then we sometimes will try to cover up their mistakes even if they are wrong. This sometimes can be stressful if they continue to do wrong and it impacts family values and culture.

Be Strong

Being strong in this age is more about mental strength than physical strength. People focus a lot on exercise and yoga and try to be physically fit. The mental aspect which is the most important is ignored for a long time. Then when someone disapproves of them due to their nature, they tend to feel depressed. Meditation can however help if done from an early age as it changes our nature from within and also keeps us stressfree.

Love Yourself

People these days love to keep themselves busy and do things for others to maintain their relationships. They may also say from outside that they don’t expect anything in return but when the time comes, you tend to turn to people you helped. Sometimes we even stop giving time to ourselves and continue pleasing others. We then reach a stressful stage when they don’t give us time or energy. It is important to love yourself before you love others.

Keep Moving Forward

We can’t change what’s already done or ever go back in time, not even one second that has just passed. Time moves on and so should we. However, our thoughts have become like fevicol. Once they stick, they don’t leave us. Or is it because we hold on to them? Only when we start appreciating what we have in the present, can we keep moving forward. The thoughts of the past make life stressful.

Brahma Kumaris is the largest spiritual organisation in the world led by women. It was the founder, Prajapita Brahma Baba, who chose to put women in the forefront. Founded in India in 1937, Brahma Kumaris has spread to over 140 countries and has had an extensive impact in many sectors as an international NGO. However, their real commitment is to helping individuals transform their perspective of the world from material to spiritual.
