DR SANJAY TEOTIA describes man’s spiritual journey which is the soul’s training in God consciousness

There is a beautiful synergy between the teachings of Jesus Christ to enter the Kingdom of God within you and the teachings of spirituality as described in the Bhagavad Gita by Lord Krishna. Both divine teachers stress that spirituality requires consciousness because we need to be aware as well as self-aware, in order to apprehend spirituality.

There is much more to learn from this. Some make the extravagant claim that our human consciousness is somehow connected directly to the cosmic consciousness. Can this make sense? If so, what would it mean? Our relationship with God is one of entanglement, an ever-evolving process.

We must make a clear and firm decision and communicate our desire to the Supreme Being to experience God consciousness. It would mean a form of surrender, of giving up our own prior expectations of what that experience will be like. We must have a strong drive with our will backing it. We must also have courage and dedication and the fortitude to take in the new experiences as more and more is revealed to us.

Several paths lead to God consciousness when one is on the path of spirituality. We are all a part of God or in other words, of consciousness. In countless ways, philosophers have said that we are One with the Supreme Being.

Spirituality helps us understand that our oneness is a fact of natural law. Through meditation, we are enabled to be on the path of self-reflection, and we begin to understand that there are no real boundaries between human beings and nature, other than those we impose upon ourselves.

Humanity is an extension of nature and natural laws. As a part of this creative cosmos, we too create, self-reflect and come to know the creator within. This is why one of the very best ways to know God is by knowing the self.

Walking the Spiritual Path

Walking the spiritual path is nothing but training for God consciousness. It is a journey which should resonate with us throughout our life. The soul is the immortal part of man as distinguished from his body; it is the vital principle which moves and animates man all his life. The soul represents the essence of a human being, and is the quality which confers humans, their individuality. Humanity is the word used to describe the moral nature of man. His physical being is represented by a changing external or morphological appearance and while it is always constantly changing, his spiritual centre is different and is defined by a quality of love and positive connections.

Indications of progress in his spiritual journey are God-Centricity in daily life, an unshakeable and disciplined daily routine, an enduring sense of peace of mind, prevailing sentiment of gratitude for what god has bestowed on him, coupled with humility that comes from a true understanding of one’s worthlessness; and a desire to serve others. Such a person has love for all friends and foes, near and dear ones and is equally helpful to distant acquaintances, and others whom he does not even know. Such a person also respects all other forms of existence. Peace cheerfulness, contentment and fearlessness indicate that you are advancing firmly on the spiritual path.
