What is positivity? It is a state of being happy and tolerant and looking at things in an optimistic way. Positivity is neither inherited nor something you are born with; it is a skill that you learn and practice just like you learn reading, writing, running and other such things. It is an act of training your brain to think and respond to situations in a calm and optimistic way, so as to bring more harmony and happiness in your life. It may take some time and a little effort every day, but the rewards will be life-changing.

Positivity impacts people of all age groups. Many people think that positivity is synonymous with happiness, but the reality is that it is much deeper and holistic. Happiness may be temporary, but positivity gives you lasting satisfaction. It is one’s perspective on life and your focus on all that is good. A positive person is always full of life.

Positivity has its own aura which not only gives mental peace but also fills you with a sense of purpose in life. Optimism acts like a big cure for mental diseases; so staying positive leads to a healthy state of mind and a feeling of wellness even in adverse situations.

In today’s times when life is so full of stress, a majority of the people have a negative bias towards life which cannot be avoided as bad things happen in everyone’s lives. The only way to get out of it is to control your thoughts and to look at everything good and in a positive manner. It may be difficult but it’s not impossible.

Negative emotions narrow our focus and scope of work. They bring on intolerance in their wave and there can’t be a more negatively powerful way to shut our minds to opportunities and new ideas. Life is never fair to anyone; so one has to always adjust and compromise. According to Sidlow Baxter, “Every opportunity has a difficulty and every difficulty has an opportunity.”

One of the most important traits of positivity is gratitude. Gratitude can do wonders in your life as it is directly associated with happiness. People who practise gratitude are more positive, more alive and express more compassion and kindness. Being thankful to whatever you have in life can lead you to a more happy and healthy life. You can feel and express gratitude in multiple ways.

There are many benefits of a positive mindset including good health, better ability to cope with stress and a feeling of greater wellbeing. It also helps in reducing depression and levels of distress and contributes towards improving your overall psychological and physical wellbeing, adding to your coping skills to keep you afloat in any situation, however challenging it might be.

Everyone has challenges in his or her life, but it is how one deals with them that is important. An optimistic person will always make an effort to take a chance instead of assuming anything bad. Bad things in life don’t always come to break you; they also come to teach you life lessons. Much depends on how you look at them. A person with a positive mindset will always try to learn from them. He will bounce back instead of giving up. Positivity is the only way to deal with disappointment in life.

As life is never fair to anyone, everyone has to adjust and compromise. In order to be positive, it is necessary to eliminate toxic relationships from your life, no matter how tough it may be to do so.

Heard of this famous saying by Alphonse Karr? “We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorns have roses.” It kind of rings true; so look at the roses and ignore the thorns. Then you will realise that positivity is a many-splendoured thing.
