On the occasion of International Mother’s Day today, SHASHI DIP holds out hope for childless couples, urging them to adopt children to bring joy into their lives

Even as the world celebrates International Mother’s Day today, my eyes get moist, thinking about those women yearning to be mothers. It’s so sad for married but childless women to hear their friends proudly sharing good news about their children, while they themselves have no children to bring them joy.

But they have not given up hope and keep praying sincerely that God may bless them with an offspring. As the years go by, they become strong; however, their shattered hearts are thirsting for an oasis in the desert.

As all women are an incarnation of the divine, universal mother, they are born with a motherly soul. Even when diagnosed with infertility, the mother in them eagerly waits for a day when a bundle of joy may land in their lap and change their life forever.

These days, there are many parenting options for childless couples. Yet they patiently wait for a biological child to arrive. Understandably, it takes time to  decide on having a test tube baby, or to adopt a child.

I have friends facing this dilemma. They have other blessings in life, and are otherwise happy and always smiling. But when I unknowingly talk about my kids, I have detected a tiny tear in a corner of their eye. I can feel their pain and sadness.

During this pandemic, my heart goes out to those children who have lost their parents. It would be nice if divine providence intervenes and orphans and childless couples fill the voids in each other’s lives.

Of course, we know that adoption is also not an easy process; it takes time and involves various legal formalities ― but isn’t it true that good things that we want in life, never come easy? It is also true that struggles, challenges and obstacles in life make living more interesting and more valuable.

So, I would like to assure my friends who feel sad for being childless, that there are lovely children in India and around the globe, who need caring parents. Please adopt these children to bring joy into your lives.

Two of my close friends and some other known people have enriched their lives by adopting children. If your relatives or critics question your adoption, ignore them and hold your head high, a proud mother that you are.

Here is a poem that I have written specially to echo the joy and spirit of motherhood!

I Hear Your Whisper My Little Baby

Hey my little baby!

When will you come to me?

I called you and waited for your arrival

I implored, I explored but I didn’t get any approval

Then after a long time I heard His decision

It is His wish, I could envision

I sensed, I could see, and understand

In my womb you will not germinate

I respect, I accept, what you indicate.

Hey my little baby!

In my heart you reside

In my soul you glide

I just need to search you

I just need to adopt you

You are a short distance away

God can’t lead me astray

Mothers do not necessarily mean birth mothers

I believe, some are exceptional and not like others

I know I am not going to experience labour pain

But you know my baby

Waiting for you engulfed me like a tidal wave

I just can’t explain

My womb is just to feel and not for you to stay

It is incredibly painful, I am unable to say

Now I have decided, enough is enough

Hey my little baby!

Let me hug you tightly

Let me nurture you

Let me be a woman with an open heart

I am a born mother

I can care and nurture you

You will feel safe, secure and loved unconditionally

I will give you space to grow into a lovely human being

God has sent me as a gift to you and you are a divine gift to me

Let me adopt you as my precious child

Let me rejoice in my motherhood

Let me shower infinite love on you

Let me learn patience, sacrifice and being selfless for you

I hear your whisper my little baby!

You are calling me Mommy

Yes! you are calling me Mommy

Don’t be sad hereafter my MOTHER

I am your baby, your precious one is here.
