Follow these simple principles to put you on the road to health and happiness, say the BRAHMA KUMARIS

Happiness, as defined by many, is to have something to do, someone to love and something to look forward to. All of these will require our minds to be strong and keep learning on the go. Let’s look at how we can start on the path of happiness and enjoy the journey called life.

Look for good in every situation

Imagine you slipped while walking on the road because you were not attentive to what was below you, namely the rotten fruits on the road that had fallen from the tree above. You would have hurt yourself a little, but the next time you pass that place, you will automatically be more attentive. So the hurt made you more attentive. Isn’t that a good quality to have more constantly?

Ignore what people say about you

This is a tough one especially when you have certain expectations of behaviour from others. There are only two people who know you well – and these quite obviously are God and your own self. Everyone has some strengths and some weaknesses. Appreciate your strengths and work on your weaknesses based on real feedback from people around you.

Develop an attitude of gratitude

Life is never going to be complete as we keep striving for more and that’s not wrong. However, they say that all the good things come to those who appreciates what he has. Thanking God for the food, clothes, a roof on the head and a good family is our duty. Don’t compare, just appreciate.

Once it’s past, let it go

Past is not for changing, but it’s to learn from and take inspiration from. Anything else like mistakes, insults and bad memories are to be forgotten and forgiven. Thinking and talking about bad memories will only deplete the energy of our soul which can be used to make life better.

Don’t listen to gossip

Everyone loves stories, so gossips are the real-life stories that are made interesting by the person narrating it. It may not be 100 per cent true, but our mind is used to listening to gossip as sometimes it makes us feel that we are giving a listening ear but it’s actually a waste of time as we won’t use that story anywhere.

Design your own life

This requires a lot of self-discipline and so very few can achieve this. However, giving up is simply a regret we may have later. Adding a hobby to your life and working on your moral values first is the way to begin and then slowly achieve the target of designing your own life.

Laugh more

We have forgotten to laugh because the things around us change very quickly and we now find it increasingly difficult to laugh. There is no harm in watching comedy shows and cartoons to get back to understanding what to laugh on. Maybe thinking about things that make us laugh and doing more of such things is also a good way to do it.

Brahma Kumaris is the largest spiritual organisation in the world led by women. It was the founder, Prajapita Brahma Baba, who chose to put women in the forefront. Founded in India in 1937, Brahma Kumaris has spread to over 140 countries and has had an extensive impact in many sectors as an international NGO. However, their real commitment is to helping individuals transform their perspective of the world from material to spiritual.
